The challenge
Industrias FMR, an Argentine metalworking company, enters the materials for every job into its drawings, then retypes them by hand into Excel sheets that pass through several departments before reaching purchasing. That double entry eats up time, introduces errors and means some shortages only surface when the shop floor needs the part.

Our solution
We applied our AI consulting to one specific process: materials management.
- Mapping the current workflow, from engineering drawings to purchasing and receiving
- Analysis of real DWG drawings and the Excel bills of materials
- Concrete automation opportunities, ranked by impact
- A rollout plan in short phases, starting with the biggest bottleneck
- A first proof of concept that pulls materials straight from the drawings
The result
- A clear picture of where materials management loses time and introduces errors
- Concrete opportunities to improve the process, with a clear order to tackle them
- A proof of concept, tested on the company's real drawings, that goes from drawing to bill of materials with no manual entry
- A roadmap for adding improvements on the same foundation
- Bottleneck first
- Materials management had several problems, but they didn't all weigh the same. So we agreed to start with the one behind the rest — entering the drawings twice — and leave topics like inventory control for later phases.
